Beyond Smoking Medical Marijuana
Smoking marijuana is, by far, the most common way that people use it. There are, however, plenty of other ways and you should be able to learn more about them at your dispensary. If you're curious as to other ways to use this medicine, read on.
Smoking marijuana does relieve pain, but that might not be what the person using it prefers. There is always the option of using an ointment with cannabis in it.
These sometimes come prepared in advance but can also be made at home. Get a cloth of the right size to cover the area that hurts and thick enough to hold the ointment, which will actually be more like a tea. Make the tea by boiling water and pouring it over cannabis. You'll have to let this sit for about 90 minutes to get the cannabinoids out.
Soak your cloth in that tea and apply it to wherever you have pain. The active ingredients in the cannabis will be absorbed through your skin, concentrated on where the pain is located.
Tinctures are preparations made from alcohol and cannabis. The processes for making these is rather complex and involved, so you may just want to get it from your dispensary if it's available.
Tinctures can be taken as any other tincture would be. You can drop it on your tongue or add it to something else. After you ingest it, you should feel the effects sooner than you would from eating marijuana but not as fast as you would from smoking it.
Make Some Tea
Tea is a great way to enjoy marijuana. You make it in the same way described for making an ointment. Just boil some water and pour it over your marijuana, giving it 90 minutes to extract the cannabinoids from the plant. You can reheat it afterward so it tastes more pleasant. If you really don't like the taste, you can add it to another beverage to dial back a bit on the cannabis taste.
There are some other options out there, but most of them start to get out of the normal range of medical marijuana concerns. For instance, there is a drug called Marinol that has a synthetic form of THC in it. Like many things in life, the imitation is not as good as the original. One of the most compelling arguments for making medical marijuana available is that it's so safe. You really can't OD on marijuana. Unfortunately, you can on Marinol, so you may want to take that into account. It's also not generally regarded as being nearly as good for anything as is actual cannabis. Most people who have the option prefer the cannabis to the artificial imitation, which is made from a petrochemical.
